Stornoway Rugby Club
Player Profile
Name: Derek J Laidlaw
Nickname: Silver Fox
Clubs Played For: Kelso, Middlesbrough, Portobello, Heriot Watt University
Best Moment in Rugby: Fortunate to have played against the odd cap or big team, but just playing the game, at whatever level, and enjoying all that goes with it has provided a million best moments
Worst Moment in Rugby: after scoring a try dropped by Kelso for an unknown youngster (George Fairbairn later played rugby league for wigan and great britain, so maybe the selectors were right!)
Worst Away ground: Elgin’s ‘stadium’ left a bit to be desired.
Preferred Position: stand off (but at my age just being in the team is a bonus)
Favourite Pub: anywhere its not my round
Toughest Opponents: Galashiels Academy (ruled the Border Schools roost), Hawick (scottish kingpins loaded with caps at the time) and Newcastle Gosforth (the week after they’d won the cup at twickers)
